VISION ULTRA Full Details
Advanced Engineering Design
The VISION ULTRA is our highly anticipated and highly optimized rodent breeding system. With the help of our engineers and feedback from large and small-scale breeders, we’ve created the most efficient, durable, safe, and affordable breeding rack on the planet.
It utilizes the Vision V-35, V-35s, and V-18 Tubs so you can breed rodents small and large from birth to maturity. There are also several components that you can tailor to your breeding operation, which you can learn more about in the following drop downs.
Vision Ultra Drop Trough System
The Vision Ultra rodent rack is a drop–trough system where the tubs ‘drop away’ from a trough-style food tray when you remove them, as breeding tubs sit on an aluminum support tube rather than hang from individual track railings. This was developed with feedback from commercial breeders where efficiency, flexibility, and durability are key to their success. The drop-trough concept offers multiple advantages:
- The trough-style food tray lets you spread food across the entire tray rather than individual hoppers. You can place all the food and water drinking valves on one side of the rack, or put food on one side and valves on the other. A food tray divider with 3 adjustable positions lets you choose the best space for food and non-food portions.
- We offer custom-designed hoppers as an alternative to the dividers. This further isolates food from the rest of the tray and allows more food in a smaller space. Food hoppers can also straddle multiple tubs to feed more efficiently and cost-effectively, while allowing more airflow into the tubs.
- The Ultra system holds a lot of weight without buckling in the middle because tubs are supported underneath instead of on the top edges. They also last longer because they don’t bear the weight on the edges, reducing friction on the tub’s upper lip when removing and replacing.
- Tubs aren’t in a fixed position, so you can mix and match them in a single rack to create a “Hybrid System”. The aluminum uprights have a universal hole pattern to fit V-35, V-18, and V-35s Tubs. So, in many configurations, the V-35s and V-18 tubs are interchangeable on the same level without changing the basic frame structure. Simply move a few bolts on the ends to modify your V-35 levels for v-18 and V-35s, and vice versa. You can also get longer uprights if you want more space for supplies and you won’t have to bend to the floor to access your tubs for daily maintenance.
- When you pull the tub about ¾ of the way out, it drops away and won’t hit the water valves that protrude into the space. Depending on where you pull the tubs from, you can put as many drinking valves or water bottles as you want in the front or back ¼ of the food tray. They protrude an inch or so into the tubs but don’t interfere as tubs are removed and inserted. You can also place multiple water sources within the same tub for redundancy, so multiple animals can drink at once, or to provide an alternative drinking source for medication and supplements.
- Food trays are adjustable in vertical distance from the tubs, so you can position the food tray tight against the tub for small animals or leave a small gap for larger animals, which makes it easier to slide tubs in and out.
The Vision Ultra drop-trough system requires fewer parts, materials, and labor to produce than most other systems – making it the most affordable and functional, professional-grade system on the market!
Stainless Steel Trough-Style Food Tray
The Vision Ultra‘s stainless steel food tray offers many advantages over others.
- The only metal that rodents touch is stainless steel. It resists chewing, has no powder-coated plain steel that rusts and corrodes, and it’s free of harmful zinc-plated steel.
- The one-piece, stamped, and formed food trays have a unique “Goldilocks” diamond-shaped hole pattern. This hole pattern ensures it’s the safest shape for rodents, the most secure from escape, and accommodates a range of drinking valve and water bottle sizes. The holes are slightly smaller than off-the-shelf expanded metal patterns, making escape extremely unlikely, but leaves enough space for rats, mice, and other rodents to access the food. This custom shape also maximizes airflow by balancing open space with the thickness of the remaining material.
- The one-piece, stamped, and formed design means no heavy welded tubes on the perimeter, making them lighter, more compact, and less expensive to produce. Plus, the Ultra-food trays can layer on each other for packaging, making the whole system more affordable to ship and easier to store.
- Patent-pending front-and-back stops secure your tubs in place. The backstops have a tight fit so tubs bumping on them won’t jar them loose, but still slide left and right for changing tub configurations. The front stops snap up and down, or slide left and right, so you can easily remove tubs for day-to-day care.
The simpler a breeding operation is – the better. Each feature of the Vision Ultra contributes to an optimized system, more functional and less expensive for the end customer!
Anodized Aluminum Tub Supports and Uprights
Tub supports and C-channel uprights hold the tubs in place and secure the food trays, which offers many advantages over a rail track system:
- Tubs can be placed in many configurations.
- Tub supports are less expensive to produce with fewer parts and less labor.
- Aluminum is light and affordable to ship, so we make tubes thick, strong, durable, and still light enough to move the rack easily. And with only a few bolts and a plate on each end, the tub supports are very easy to assemble.
- Anodizing is an electrochemical process that permanently colors and hardens the surface of aluminum. This creates tub supports and uprights with a durable, scratch-resistant finish that won’t rust, chip, or corrode.
- The aluminum frame members are much thicker than the steel of other systems, allowing longer racks, fewer uprights, and more tubs. This also reduces the overall cost per tub and optimizes your space.
- The upright’s hole pattern makes each level a little further apart vertically than most track rail systems, creating more airflow and making feeding and servicing your water valves much easier.
- The Vision Ultra uprights are stamped with a universal hole pattern so the tub supports and food trays can be adjusted for any combination of V-35, V-35s, or V18 Tubs.
Advanced Engineered End Plates
The end plates of the Vision Ultra are the lynchpin of the rack design, making it modular, affordable, and easy to assemble.
This design avoids expensive welding, yet maintains rigid strength and durability.
Casters, Wheels, and Adjustable Feet
The hole pattern in the anodized aluminum uprights lets you attach our stainless-steel bracket to add casters or adjustable feet. No additional base-level frame is required– you only need a simple bracket to bolt it to the C-channel upright. You can add this during the initial assembly or later on. The caster brackets have oval-shaped holes which provide slight adjustability to the caster brackets and ensure a level rack.
Vision Ultra casters have just the right diameter and rubber durometer so moving your rack is easy, smooth, and you can cross obstacles like door thresholds or flooring transitions.
Our caster kits come with 4 brackets and casters, 2 of which have wheel locks to keep your rack stationary.
Supply Trays
Supply trays make storage simple and tidy. Use additional food trays anywhere in the system to hold food, bedding, alternate and extra tubs, and other supplies within the same footprint of your rack.
To do this, simply order taller uprights or longer food trays than you need for the number of tubs.
Vision Ultra Watering Systems
The Vision Ultra‘s gravity-fed watering system is DIY-friendly, giving you the ability to custom-build your own. We offer a 5-gallon water container with a handle to carry up and down from the top of your rack. It also has a large access cap to fill it with water, clean the inside, and reach the bulkhead from the inside. We can install the easy-to-remove self-sealing bulkhead for you and there’s no need for a shutoff valve – the bulkhead seals itself with a simple quarter-turn.
Water Container Holders
We also offer two water container holders – The pedestal holder and the cantilever holder. The water container pedestal holder sits on the top food tray with enough space to place food underneath. The container cantilever holder bolts into the uprights and overhangs to reduce the weight of the container on the food tray.
Two styles of container cantilever holders are available depending on your space:
- Hangs over the rack to keep the water container within the confines of the rack.
- Hangs outside the rack for full clearance of the food tray.
Customize Your Watering System
Accessories include tubing, drinking valves, elbows, tees, shutoff valves, and more. Our [Standard Package Specials] have pre-configured water drip systems optimized for each rack, but you can always customize your own.
Utilize Water Bottles
A unique feature of the Vision Ultra rack system is the ability to use a water bottle. Our custom water bottle holders and nozzles fit nearly any water bottle up to 20 ounces, glass or plastic, and can be placed anywhere on the front or back of the tray in one of the diamond-shaped holes. Repurpose used water bottles for your breeding system – making them essentially free, and much less wasteful.
Our unique water bottle holder lets you place common water bottles in the holder and it will guide the nozzle into the hole opening. The best part, it holds the bottles above the food tray so animals can’t chew on them and there’s no need for heavy, expensive glass bottles.
Breeders use water bottles for many reasons.
- To avoid drip systems because of the risk of failure, lines plugging, and the system complexity.
- To complement a drip system if a water valve fails. Simply install a water bottle until you replace or fix the valve.
- For an isolated water source if you have animals with unique needs, like medication, supplements, and test how much liquids your animal consumes for research or health checks.
The Vision Ultra water bottle holder and drip nozzles offer versatile and efficient options, unlike any other system.
